Water Quality Management – Tuesday 5/26/2015

Lake Hills Members,

Aquatic Control Technologies (ACT) is scheduled for TUESDAY, MAY 26, 2015 to perform the following water quality management items:

  • Survey weed and algae growth throughout the lake.
  • Algaecide application to reduce filamentous algae growth (green/brown slime) on the lake surface and the lake bottom.
  • Manual removal or herbicide application to nuisance weeds in swim areas and boat lanes.
  • Sampling for water quality monitoring.

ACT typically performs the work using a small motor boat launched from Beach 6.

ACT posts chemical application notifications (yellow 8.5″ x 11″ paper) at applicable beaches during or immediately after all chemical treatments. The notifications contain details of water usage restrictions which are generally minimally interruptive to lake recreation.

Please keep an eye out for the posted notifications and adhere to any noted usage restrictions. If chemicals are applied directly in a swim area, it is advised to remain out of the water in that area for one hour.

*Feeding your lawn feeds the weeds and algae in the lake. Minimize or eliminate lawn fertilizers. As an alternative, consider using organic fertilizers with low or no phosphorous (the middle number is phosphorous, ex., 18-0-4).

*Manually remove nuisance aquatic weeds and filamentous algae from near-shore swim areas.

Please contact your District Rep with any questions or concerns.
